Domaine Le Poteau is a beautiful, small, rural campsite in the heart of the proud and ancient region of Gascony in South West France. It is wonderfully calm and peaceful. An ideal spot to relax and de-stress. Large, private pitches are scattered around a mature orchard providing lots of shade and generous sunny spots too. Awaken to bird song and a view of vineyards, woodland and the local church spire. After a day of sight-seeing, walking, cycling, eating or simply chilling in the orchard or by the pool, fall asleep under stunning, dark skies.
Domaine le Poteau is a friendly, relaxed site. Alasdair and/or Fiona make every effort to greet new arrivals and ensure that they have everything they need. The resident donkeys, Joel and Noelle also love to meet and greet everyone; especially if that involves a carrot. There are regular meals and BBQs which bring guests together. With evenings often ending with friends, old and new, chatting around the campfire.
Gers is a very beautiful, unspoiled area. It is not particularly well known but is well worth discovering. Les Gersois are very proud of their region, culture and traditions and their reputation as warm welcoming people. Once discovered, people tend to fall in love with The Gers and return year on year. It is home to many small, family run vineyards which produce excellent wine, Floc and, of course, Armagnac. The area is scattered with small, beautiful, bastide villages and pretty, winding roads through lovely woodland and rolling countryside.
The local village, Castelnau D'Auzan is an easy walk from the site. It has an excellent bakery, friendly well stocked grocery store, two good restaurants/bars, pharmacy and post office. It also has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a fishing lake. There are no large-scale attractions locally, which is part of the charm of the area, but there is plenty to do. Our guests particularly enjoy cycling and walking as there are endless numbers of fascinating, beautiful routes to follow
