The Loire Valley is a World Heritage site area and is home to more than 400 chateaux. The following are possibly the best known:
The Loire is famous for its Châteaux and one that you must visit is the Château de Chambord. It is a little over an hour away from the campsite but is well worth a visit as it is one of the finest samples of Renaissance architecture in France. Completed in 1547, the Château took more than 30 years to build and has 440 rooms, stabling for over 1200 horses, parkland of over 5,000 hectares and is surrounded by over 20 miles of walls!

There are many events on at the chateau, but from June to September, the National Estate of Chambord will be presenting nightly performances latest sound and light show, “Chambord, Rêve de Lumières”
Cheverny is different from the other châteaux in that it was built purely in the Louis XIII classical style, and is built in a beautiful white stone. The château was built in the first part of the 17th Century. For Tintin fans, there is also a special exhibition called the Secrets of Marlinspike Hall, as it was this chateau which was the inspiration for Herge to create Marlinspike Hall in "The Secret of the Unicorn" and "Red Rackham’s Treasure"! http://www.chateau-cheverny.com/en
Situated just over an hours drive away at St Aignan in the heart of the Loire valley, this is one of the largest and most beautiful zoological panda at beauvalparcs in Europe, with 4000 animals set in 55 acres. There are tropical greenhouses, an African Savanna area, and a pool with glass viewing screen as well as a gigantic compound for the elephants.
The zoo is also host to the first two pandas to live in France, Huan Huan and Yuan Zi

The Loire is famous for wine and there are wine tours in the area and you can visit and buy directly from the producers!
